Active Markers
An infrared light-emitting diode for use with optical measurement applications.
Infrared Light-Emitting Diodes for Precise Tool Tracking
The infrared emitting diode (IRED) is an active marker mounted on a ceramic base.
The optical tracker detects the infrared light emitted by the active markers and calculates the position and orientation of tools that incorporate them. Power for the IRED comes from an optional System Control Unit for wired tools or from an external supply (such as batteries) for wireless tools.
Superior Tracking Accuracy
Active marker tools with IREDs ensure consistent visibility even in low-light or obscured environments, offering superior tracking accuracy. Furthermore, active markers transmit data wirelessly in real time, allowing for immediate feedback and precise instrument positioning. This real-time data transmission is particularly valuable in image-guided surgery and robotic-assisted procedures, where precision is critical.
